Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default Steering noise

I have a '99 ZX2 with a 132,000+ miles. For the last several months, I've had a squeeking noise from steering column, just forward of the steering wheel. Anytime I steer left or right, as in making a turn or parallel parking, I hear this noise. Not really a swishing sound. More like a squeek, like plastic parts rubbing together, just forward of the wheel. Anybody have any ideas?

right the main casue of this usually evolve from the rack and pinion not getting enough fluid could be a blockage in the 4 main feed pipe located on the back of the rack also it could be your track rod ends mate they control the steering direction on the car if they are worn they need replacing if not try turning the steering full lock either way and this check the cv jhoints if the squeek is there on either side on full lock its the cv joint if these are not the problem get back to me thanks
