Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default Dead Escort...What else is new...

My 92 Escort reved up on me on the expressway. The tach went to 7, and the speedo dropped like a stone, but the car didn't act like it just went through a hard downshift. My battery light came on, and i pulled off. When i parked my car, i did my normal rounds of checking the car over...Got oil, trans fluid, belt, coolant...Well, i went to start my car....and nothing... No crank, but i still had power. After talking to a mechanic friend, we decided that it was most likely an electrical issue....the alternator probably dropped amps, and the car freaked...Does anyone know what could be wrong? has any of these syptoms happened before... HELP!

Adam

The voltage regular on the alt might be burned out causing a flux in voltage. Worst case is that you'll need a new alternator. Your output speed sensor might need replacement, as it has influence on the speedo itself. Your starter solinoid may also need replacement.
