Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default 1998 Ford Escort wont start

I was driving on the free way and experienced a sudden loss of power, as i coasted off the freeway and came to a stop the engine died and wouldn't re-start. The motor turns over but wont fire. I changed spark plugs and wires, checked fuel filter for flowage and went down to Auto Zone and rented a diagnostic tool which tells me "PASS [no codes were detected]" I'm stumped and don't know what to do next.

when you put the new plugs and wires in did you check and make sure there was spark when the car turned over ? if not check the ignition module( located next to the fuse box underneath the hood). module are expensive if you could find a module out of a scrap yard that would be best. my only other clue would be the crank censor which new would only run about $60.

Check to see if the timing belt has broken. Is this the 4-door or the 2-door Escort?
