Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default 1998 LX ford escort with big problems

hey all-

this is my first posting here and I am really hopeing I can get some advice about my problem. I have a 1998 lx ford escort. while driving up a hill I felt a loss of power, but it was small and I thought nothing of it... thinking that maybe my foot had slipped off the gas pedal. after parking it and then trying to start it again about 30 min later I found that it would not start. after letting it sit I was able to start it and limp it home. it had a loss of power and did not like going up hills. i noticed the next day the on of the plug wires was damage and I replaced them as well as the plugs I then noticed that the hose for the pcv valve was melted through so I replaced that as well... it idles now, but I soon as I hit the gas it boggs down hard. if I slowly accelerate i do not have this problem. but it still boggs doen pretty good it i try and get on the freeway. I replaced the MAF sensor and it did not fix the problem. I replaced the air filter and fuel filter as well.. still nothing.. it is not fit to drive and really boggs down with you push the gas. what am I missing here... any ideas as to what could be going on? it ran great before and this just happen suddenly. please help!!

Sounds like she got pretty hot. I would look for another melted hose with vacuum. A big vacuum leak will cause rough idle and bad accel....

Could it be possible that you connected the spark plug wires incorrectly? Also, make sure they're really snapped onto the plugs.
