Ford EscortFord Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.
1997 1.6 si --- petrol smell & electric window failure
i'll start by saynig im new here, and dont know too much about cars, but im unemployed and seriously skint so if i can it fix myself that would be groovy, if not an approx indication of repair costs would also be helpful.
window first:
drivers side elec window stuck about 3/4 way up, passenger side works fine.
ive had the car for 1 year and the drivers window has been kinda loose since i got it, as if it wasnt sitting quite right, id sometimes have to help it fit the last inch or so when closing it. then it seemed to threaten to stop working for about the last week or so, finally stopping altogether this afternoon.
petrol smell:
theres a smell of petrol when driving the car, but no obvious leaks when i look underneath or under the bonnet with the engine running. any ideas?
it was just mot'd 2 weeks ago and i mentioned it afterwards, the guy said he had it running when he tested it and never noticed anything. however it does seem to be getting more noticeable tho.
i have wondered if its been using more fuel, but wasnt sure if thats just me be being tight!!!!
any info on either issue would be much appreciated cheers
i fixed the window but it still reeks of fuel, seems to be near the fuel cap at the back somewhere. also performance seems unaffected.
what could it be??????????
thanks for all the replies guys!!!
it was the petrol tank. it became apparent when it was parked sideways on a slope and u could see it pouring out, so if anyone else has a similar problem, id suggest filling the tank, and parking it at different angles on a hill/slope, and u should be able to see if it has a leak.
e bay was the cheapest option for a new tank about £63 inc p&p, i got one from the scrappy for £20.
