Ford EscortFord Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.
Hello, I have been driving my escort since the middle of summer without the alternator working. I have been using the car only to go to work wich is about 10 miles away and charging the battery at night. Well Friday I left without a full charge and had to drive with the headlights and windshield wipers on and I did not make it home before the battery went dead. When it was running last it was spitting and sputtering and the lights (dash and headlights) were out. I figured the battery was dead and it was spitting and sputtering because of low spark.
I had a charged battery in the back seat so I put it in and the car would not fire off. I was only about a half of a mile from home so I walked home. Since then I have been back and checked the fuel line pressure (good) and the spark (with a spark plug) and found that it does not have any spark. I did not find a blown fuse in the obvious places (by the battery and under the steering wheel.)
Does anyone have an idea why this car does not have spark?
I had the same problem and I found that if I pulled the computer from its cubby hole it would crank. In otherwords the cumputer can not touch metal or it would ground and it won"t crank. Why I haven;t fiqured that out yet.
The problem was that one or more of the trouble codes kept it from having spark. I solved the problem by unplugging the battery for five minutes to clear the codes.
If unplugging the battery to erase the codes helped you that is cool, however your problem may still be there and as soon as the codes get generated again you might be back to the start of your initial problem again.

If your Exhaust tip is bigger than your cylinder bore, you are a Ricer!
No I have not yet fixed the initial problem and I have driven over 200 miles from the time of resetting the codes. I have purchased an exhaust system, rotors, pads, and replaced one out of the four tires though. I plan on working on it some more today and tomorrow because the outside temperature is in the 50's instead of the 20's.
