Ford Excursion In terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds and seat 8-9.

Smile 3 serious Problems found in Excursion

I have owned a 5.4L gas, 2002 Excursion for 3 years now and absolutely love it. No major problems at all. We use it as a Limo and have put 210K miles on it. Now, i have 3 problems as per below and wondering if i should get rid of it and get a 05 with low milage or what

1) Lately, when i start the vehicle, the "theft" sign goes on on the dash board, all the gagues go to their maximum limit, and the vehicle starts with a little hesitation. I have 2 years old battery and 1 year old alternator. I am wondering what could be the problem. This is on since a month now. The problem started with car not starting and starting with a jump start, then it always started but with a hesitation, then later it started with the "theft" blinking, and now at last, "theft" sometimes blinking sometimes not, and starts with hesitation on and off.. What to do???

2) I can't seem to get the wheels aligned. I put new all season tires, put all 4 ball joints, and got the wheel balanced and aligned. Now the car has about 10 degree + or -. It stays and goes straight but also goes and straight with a little left and right. Wierd, i just can't figure it out. One mechanic said to grease the ball joints which we did, the problem still exist.

3) The power of this vehicle is much down than before, should i redo the engine, or buy another vehicle, or do something to get it's power back. The vehicle goes just fine at 80 mph, but it is very noisy at low speed as it doesn't have that much power as a man...

I am new to this and the computer world, and may not learn quickly to thank all the replies but i am thankful to all possible replies with a warm regards.

Don't miss to watch the magnificent beautiful glowing full moon tonight. 12-13-08
Many thanks.

1. I am having a similar electronic gage problem on a 500. It is electrical in nature, their is a short somewhere, I have heard in the past that the vehicles computer has to be replaced, but not sure.
2. I would take this vehicle to a shop that can align rv/buses. They have the proper equipment to handle a vehicle this big. If someone told you to grease the ball joints, unless I am mistaken, all ball joints in Expeditions and Excursions are sealed.
3. This could be related to problem #1, you may be operating in safe mode. Decreased power, but engine will run. Have you replaced filter, fuel and air, spark plugs, cleaned throttle body, etc.

is the RPM gauge moving when you spin it over?If it does not move possible Crank sensor, there is an active Recall for this.

Check Oil Level.

Default starting problem

I had that same electrical problem, I had my battery checked and it came up being fine. When the car takes longer to start the "theft" light and rear defrost light comes on. So I switched the battery anyway and now everything works fine.

When it starts up and shuts off after idling for a little, I have noticed it to be the IAC valve. I replaced it on both my 2000 and 2005 excursion. The carbon deposits make the valve stuck and doesn't function the way that it should.
