Default Oxygen Sensor locations

How many Oxygen sensors on a 2000 Ford Excursion V10? Where are they located? Any tricks in replacing them?

There are 4 of them. 2 "upstream" of the catalyst (near the engine) and 2 downstream of the catalyst.

Why do you think you need to replace them ? They typically last over 100K miles.

Default Oxygen Sensor replacement

I have 150k miles on my Excursion and the "Service Engine Soon" amber light has come on. Auto Zone read the codes and said the upper Oxygen sensors in (track?, zone?, bank?) 1 and 2 need to be replaced. I am trying to understand that and determin if it is something I can do myself.

I understand with the V10 I need to jack the vehicle to get at the Oxygen sensors.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes rarely say that a specific part is faulty. It is more likely that is said something like "Bank 1 lean", which could be several other problems.

Go back to AutoZone. Ask them to pull the codes and report the exact codes back here.

OK, the exact codes are PO171 and PO174. Lean bank 1 & 2.

Thanks for your help.

Those codes mostly likely mean you have a vacuum leak.

I looked for leaks today using a listening hose. Nothing obvious was detected. Is there another better technique for finding a vaccum leak?

Ok, so I tried to identify a vaccum leak using the propane torch approach....nothing found. Finally went to Ford and determined it was a mass air flow sensor problem. Works fine now.
