Ford Excursion In terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds and seat 8-9.

Question Stalling and warm start prob. w/ 6ltr diesel

I have a 6.0 liter 05 excursion that will stall at low rpms after it is warm. (i.e. stopping quiclkly at a light). Then if it warmed up it will not restart. cranks great. let it cool down and it will start after dead cold. Then it will run great and will run al day on the e-way. will idel for hours also. shut it off and its warmed up no start. Pulled a code P0470 I believe this is the exhuast pressure circuit sensor. Would this sensor cause this?

This may sound dumb, as I am not a mechanic, but I was having the same problem. I do a lot of towing, so I burn a lot of extra oil. On top of that I got a bad batch of oil......so I was told. I took my excursion to my shop and they changed my oil and I have not had the problem since. They also said that part of the problem with it is that I need to change the fuel filter every 15,000 miles.

One difference is that I have a 7.3, but thought I would pas this along.

Angry Starting problems

There are several problems with Excursions starting and stalling. If it doesn't crank its most likely ..
Ford products (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury) made from 1992 to 2006 had a design defect in the starter that often caused a no-start, no-crank condition. The problem was traced to the ignition terminal connection on the starter's solenoid. Ford finally came out with a conversion kit that remedied the problem. It is Ford part number 6U2Z-14S411-NA, discussed in Technical Service Bulletin 06-19-14 dated Oct. 2, 2006.

If it tends to shut off after low idle there's a good chance it is your Intake Air Control Valve. Probably has carbon deposits all around the solenoid.

I've had a 2000 and now have a 2005 Excursion V10 Gas. Replaced IAC valve on both vehicles. Am now having no crank starting problems on the '05.
