Front End Noise

We have a 2001 V10 78,000 mi. , and have been very happy with it. Lately we have been getting a clunking noise when coming to a stop. It appers to be coming from the front end, you can hear it and feel it in the floor boards. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and what they found to be the problem.

I don't have an answer for you, but our Excursion just started making the same noise. Wondering if you have gotten any responses to the problem.

We have an '01 V10 4wd 114k miles, and the front end is the only thing that I am always having to have cared for on this truck. Brakes, calipers, rotors, pads, about every 14 months. The bouncing, noise ,and pulsing when stopping is so bad that it bounces through the steering wheel and even in the seats. It has been so bad this time that the ball joints are showing wear.... Any ideas, or comments are appreciated because this is getting rather expensive! I teach high school in a rural community and like the extra cargo and seating space but the front end is very expensive...

Sounds to me like the ball joints are what you are hearing. I had a 2000 F-250which is the same set up and frame as the Excursion and I had that same problem with my left ball joint (lower) at 82,000mi, then the right side at 110,000 mi. It's a clunking noise that you hear when you brake (the ball joint is shifting a little) because the pressure is pulling the joint a different direction when you brake from when you are driving forward. I also sometimes got it when I started up after braking due to it shifting again. These trucks are just so heavy, ball joints are going to be a problem with them.

So, I am still battling with a front end noise, vibration, and siezed right front caliper. This is the third time in 18 months on our truck.

I encourage other Excursion owners to call Ford directly at 1-800-392-3673. Have your VIN# and request a complaint to be filed about the truck.

I feel that it is to the point on our truck that it has become unsafe to drive and am considering to escalate this to the Federal Safety Board for their investigation. We have spend $3,000 in 18 months to have the front end repaired and without fail, the front end will result to its terrible ride within 3-6 months!

Have U-BOLTS tightened (with half inch air impact gun full force) on front axle. This will eliminate your problem. It worked on my truck six years ago and so far, I haven't heard that kluncking since. Give it a shot!

If none of those work, get your hub assembly checked. I was offraoding with some buds, one a h2 and jeep. Guess who got stuck, mister i go anywhere h2. Then the jeep got stuck cause h2 got stuck, well me bing the brainyack i am, i pulled both out, im not shitting. But during the mean time of pulling them out, i messed up hub assembly

Sway bar bushings and llinks are also a common cause of that noise and often get overlooked. At 64k (and I baby my truck ) I've done ball joints front shocks, leaf springs and sway bar links. My truck now rides like new with no noises. I am sure the clunking noise was the sway bar links.

I am set to take my 2003 Excursion in on next Monday for front end noise. I have an extended warranty. Has anyone had warranty problems involving these issues and how long does it normally take to get this work done. I have 65k on mine and love it. I hope to drive it until it falls apart. Preferably not while I am driving it.

i have had a bad creaking noise in mine and had it checked out and it seems to be the front body mount bushings,when i put lube spray on them they stop,this noise happens when i take off or turn or stop
