I read on another forum about the wd40 in respect to the latch stuck... tried the wd and it didn't work... read on this forum about the dirt and decided to use a gun scrubber. It comes in a spray can you can buy at walmart. Worked like a champ the first time. Went back and sprayed the wd40 just to lube it again.

WD-40 is junk. For a long lasting lube use Silicone Spray Lubricant, it lasts 100 times longer than WD-40 and will not wash away.

Thanks Mark V... first thing was to get it clean and the lights off. I'll get a good silicone spray lubricant and do it all again.

Yes you were correct, cleaning is the first step.

I sometimes use Brake Cleaner cause I know it wont melt the plastic parts of switches.

Just remember the thicker the grease you use, the more dust and dirt it attracts.

I like and recommend Silicone Spray Lubricant cause it coats and lubricates everything dry.

I made a big Sticky about Windstar's here http://www.ford-forums.com/ford-wind...-off-help.html

It has helped lots of people.

Glad I could be some assistance to you.
