Ford ExcursionIn terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds and seat 8-9.
I am wondering if anyone has heard of or had a problem I am having. When I am driving at any speed, towing or not, I get a noise that sounds like some type of pressure being released when the gears change. When I am towing, I get the noise a little more until I let off the gas and let it release. I have been told by numerous diesel performance places numerous different things. One place says it is the bearings in the turbo. That one doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but I am no expert. Another place says to replace the turbo altogether. One place says that replacing the waste gate actuator will fix the problem.
My main concern right now is that I want to upgrade a few things to get better gas mileage and better towing. Since everything I have is stock, including the turbo, will this turbo last and will it handle adding extra horsepower? Is the stock turbo capable of handling extra horsepower, or should I get an aftermarket turbo? Also, I was told that if I get a programmer to go with the new SCT X3, instead of the Edge Evolution. I was told that the edge wants to be driven hard and gear changes would be inconsistent if I drive it in a way to save gas mileage.
So no help from xtremediesel. I found another company that builds their own turbo's, but uses mostly Garrett stuff, just for a lot less. Compturbo.com is sending it out today for the price of the bd power turbo.....$1280. It is the upgraded turbo with a 1.0 turbine housing and 88 mm compressor wheel.
Again, this is what happened to me and I do not reccommend companies that make promises, then do nothing to make things right.
