Ford Excursion In terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds and seat 8-9.

i have a 2003 Excursion V10 6.8L and i want to know what would be the best sounding exhaust system for it. I was thinking Glass Packs or in other words Cherry Bombs..... Any other good suggestions?

i have an 05 with the v10 and i cut the muffler off and just put a piece of pipe there and it sounded awesome and it wasn't horribly loud either but it had a bad drone noise while at highway speed especially because unlike a pick-up truck the muffler is still under the cab. I was ok with it but it was a little too much for the wife and kids. not bad for a $20 exhaust though. The best i've heard was a flowmaster catback and the guy said it didnt have much of a drone but for $500 it better not. All the v10's i've heard with open exhaust's still sound like a V8 under water.

I put the Flowmaster True Dual Exhaust System on my Ex and it sounds great. When it was all said and done it cost me $250.

True Dual exhaust systems are built with maximum performance and aggressive looks in mind. These systems feature mandrel bent 16 gauge aluminized steel tubing, specially tuned mufflers, weld-on or flanged cross-over pipes, clamps, hangers, mounting hardware and stainless steel tips that complete that custom installation for that aggressive performance look and sound.

Where can you find the flowmaster systems? I can't seem to find anything and I would love to have a cat back on my 01. Everything I seem to find comes back to a diesel.

Thanks

Brian, go to this link Search Results : Flowmaster Inc. Exhaust Shop, Love That Sound!
The co. has lots of Flowmaster mufflers that will fit an Excursion, but maybe not a kit. I'm sure the 50 Series SUV muffler would work. I may put a Gales Bank Power Pak on my Excursion, but if not I'll get one of these FMs and put it on. You may have to pick which model to get depending on the inlet/outlet tube position that you need for your truck. I'd recommend using the 3" tube sizes.

COLOR="blue"]To Excursion V-10 owners: This is a follow up message for the one I posted to Brian on 8-25-2009.
I found the problem with the Excursion's lack of power. The factory connection of the left bank's exhaust pipe to the right bank's exhaust pipe is restricted. The 2 1/2 inch pipe is squeezed down to about 1 3/4 in. + the connection from the right bank's exhaust pipe is at a right angle to the header pipe. An exhaust expert agree that this connection is very congested and restricts power. He built a custom Y pipe that completely smooths the exhaust flow in that area. Now the 2 1/2 in exhaust pipes from the banks blend perfectly into the 3 in. pipe that runs to the cat and then on to the back @ 3 in. OD. We replaced the factory muffler with a Flowmaster Series 70 Big Block II muffler. The muffler fit perfectly so no added pipe was needed. My Excursion has the 3 in. stainsteel exhaust all the way back & looks mainly stock. The Moose has gained 2 mpg overall + has instant power at the tip of the toe. Barely increasing pressure results in acceleration and mph increases. Total cost of this mod: only $264. I see no need to still consider the Gale Banks Power Pak any longer. This simple mod has solved a lot of problems including the excessive heat problem that may lead to the exhaust manifold warping that we've been hearing about. [

I did purchase and install the Gale Banks TransCommand module. It adjusts the shift points and shift firmness of the V-10's tranny. With light loads, the tranny shifts as normal, a smooth shifting E4OD. With heavy loads, the shifts are firm and quick. Me likely !!!
