New Guy - need some advice

I have the hots for an Excursion. I have a 2005 Dodge 3500 for pulling, etc. I am looking for the Excursion to haul 4 of use, 2 dogs, luggage and on occasion a trailer. Hunting rig, farm truck - not a daily driver.

4wd is a must along with leather.

I am leaning towards a V-10. I am concerned about the high mileage and initial and on going cost of the diesel. I like the Cummins in my Dodge and the 7.3 is a good engine. 6.0 - depends on the year I think is good.

I have found a 2000 1 owner V-10 4wd with 169K miles. I need to go look at it. Says the pan is leaking in the rear. I suspect that means rear main, not just a pan gasket. $6300.

Comments, advice, etc?
