Ford Excursion In terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds and seat 8-9.

Question 00-05 Diesel Excursion advice

I am new to the forum and somewhat new to fords, i am in need of some advice on the Excursion diesel engines. What i have heard so far is that the 7.3l is much more realiable than the 6.0l but the 6.0l has better gas milage.. I have been looking at excursions between 00-05 with 80k-150k on them. Looking for all and any advice you can offer me about the vehicles especially about the diesel engines. Thanks for the input in advance.

Tom

The 2005 6.0 is not a bad choice. Stay away from the first 2 years of the 6.0, they are exceptionally unreliable.
The 7.3 is a good choice even though initially it doesn't have the power or fuel economy of the 6.0. However, it can be modified to higher HP or higher fuel mileage or both.

120,000 miles on my 2004 Excursion and I drive the crap out of it. I did replace a fuel injector. If you change the oil on them regularly as every 3000 you should be good.
