Default Problem with power door locks

Hello evertone new to the site.
My wife and i just purchased a used 2000 ex and are having an issue with the power locks on the entire vehicle.

the fob will not lock the doors nor will the manual buttons on the door.
the only response i get is the sound like something trying to work.

any thoughts on why all the actuators would all go out at the same time? If indeed that is the problem.

thanks for any input.

I can't explain why your having this problem but I purchased a 2000 excursion also and had the same problem. I replaced all the actuators about 2 years ago and havent had any problems since. I thought it was strange that they all went out at the same time.

Question Problem with Power door locks.

Hello I am NEW at this site!
I have an 00 Excursion and I too have multiple door locks that will not function.
Would Lubrication or cleaning work?
What did you purchase the mechanisims for? Are they expensive?
Also Are they difficult to replace?

Thanks for any help/info.

I have a 2001 Excursion with the same problem. I have noticed that when this happens on any Excursion, it happens to all the doors at the same time. This makes me think that it would have something to do with a componant that all the locks have in common, such as a set of relay contacts being bad. If a contact gets charred then it does not allow enough current to pass through to actuate the mechanisms. Some of you may have measured 12V at the mechanisms and this would be correct, but it does not mean that the proper amount of current was getting through. I haven't taken the time to track mine down yet, but if somebody finds out where the relay is for the power door locks, please post it.

Default Ford Excursion Door Locks

Hi, these lock actuators are weak and fail at nearly the same time since you probably use your remote to lock and unlock each time, actuating all even if only 1 is up.

I have had 3 Exc's and 2 of them had to have all 5 replaced. I did 1 at a time on the first one but it was annoying after the third so I did the remaining before they went. The second
truck I did when the first one got weak, all 5 at a time. There is a right and a left door
lock actuator but I am not sure which one the rear takes. Buy them offline and do it yourself. About 30 minutes each, and a bit tricky but after the first one it gets much easier.
The removeal is tough, un-hooking the plastic latch mech is awkward so I just break
them off and dig the broken latch piece out. I also had the same problem with an F150 Lariat 4X4 (1998)

There are details and instructions out there but with a new one in your hand and the door panels off, you can figure out the process if you have moderate skill. At $300 per door from
the Dealership (mine anyway) it is well worth the Sunday Afternoon and $250 for 5 of them and no more accidental unlocked doors.

I also recommend doing the door ajars at the same time - $15 a piece and easy to change once you are in there. On 5 trucks I have had 7 of those fail too, so now I rip them all out in 1 shot and it takes about 3 or 4 hours.

Sweet! Check this out!

Default Actuator replacement

Thanks to Cuinak! I had finaly had enough! Peolpe kept getting in my truck at night, because I would forget to check ALL the doors. I finally was able to find the actuators at Autozone. They only had one each, so I got them and installed them. I had a lot of help at the fire statioin do ing it. We tackled two doors at the same time and were able to replace them both in about an hour and a half, including making a coule of EMS calls. Next shift we di the front doors. It will be nice to have the locks work again! Of course, once they are all installed, a new alarm system is next. Thanks again for the instructions on the installation. This was the only place I could find them.
