Ford Excursion In terms of size, the Ford Excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. Supremely stable at speed, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Whether you have a lot of cargo to carry, a bunch of people to transport, a big trailer to pull, or all of the above, the Excursion is ready for whatever you throw its way. It can tow up to 11,000 pounds and seat 8-9.

Default 7.3L Engine Problems

Ok, I need some help here... My 7.3 has some kinda funk...

On a recent trip from VA to NC (~350mi) the truck started getting a very violent shuddering... It happened about 20 times over a 15 minute period, going about 70mph. It felt as if the fuel was completely cut for about 1/10 second. Felt almost like running over a speed bump at 70mph. The RPM guage staggered, as the engine fought to run. Twice, the engine completely stalled while going highway speeds. Might have been my imagination, but I heard knocking from the engine. It would mostly run fine, then get a spell of this engine sputtering stuff. I bearly made it home. Didn't seem to have any connection with the throttle position, or driving speed. It would really throw you forward as each unexpected jolt happened... I always get my diesel from a respectable dealer, and run that Diesel Kleen in atleast every-other tank. The truck has about 120k miles, with no other significant history. I did tinker with Biodiesel about 1 year ago, but only ran about 10 gallons thru the system. I replaced the water pump about 5k miles ago, but I can't see how that is related... I de-activated the Edge chip (put it on the stock setting) with no noticable difference. The engine never runs rough or poor, its just perfect, or "off" for 1/10 second shuddering stuff...

Suggestions?

there are a couple of things.
1. make sure the oil that you you used has a cf-4 or cg--4 this is a anti-foaming agent VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE INGECTORS and the oil is up, when it gets to low it will start to cut out.
2. fuel filter is clean and the heater inside the fuel bowl is okay
3. also make sure the wiring to the heads are okay, there are times they will unplug inside the valve cover which i would get a tech. to do.
4. the crank shaft sensor can cause these problems, they are easy to change and the price of them dropped from $320 to $100.
