Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Post No A4WD or 4HI, But 4LO Works Fine

Hello all,

Hopefully someone can give me a starting point before I start tearing things apart this weekend. I have a 1997 Expy EB with 102K miles. This vehicle is in mint condition, and I make sure I cycle through the 4 wheel drive ranges monthly so parts don’t get stuck. I have been using the A4WD and 4HI a lot lately due to the winter we are having here in Iowa. However last week we had 12 inches dump on us, and I had to use 4LO to get down my farm lane. Every thing worked fine that night getting home, and I parked it in my heated shop like always. Two days later we got another snow storm, so I put it in A4WD and noticed it stayed in 2WD when heading out of my lane to work. I switched over to 4HI, -- and still nothing. I then switched to 4LO, and it worked fine. I repeated this sequence 5 times over the last couple days, and it has done the same thing. I have no noises, or vibrations and it drives normal. My indicator lights work fine and they do not flash or seem out of the ordinary in any way.

Could it be the shift motor or Solenoids? Dirty/wet connections?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I have same what the same problem. I had the EXP on 4X4 during the weekend and switched the lever back to 2 wheel drive, the indicator light did not registared the change, but when I tested the vehicle it was on 2 wheel drive. I placed the lever back onto 4X4 drive and the vehicle would not go into 4X4 mode. When moving the lever I no longer here the clicking noise and the last time I placed it on 4X4, the indicator kept going back and fourth between the 4X4 and AWD. Whats up any help out there....
