Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Question Just Bought '99 Expedition - Need Input Please!

Hi. I'm new here. I just sold one of my Mustangs to get a '99 Expedition. It's the 4.6L 4x4 model. It has high miles...165,000. I have a few questions about the truck, if you don't mind.

1. The self-leveling air suspension is noisy. Is this normal?

2. The front and rear air and heat work fine, but the middle row air and heat won't work. Also, the overhead interior lights don't work up front. These are located in the front of the truck, just in front of the air/heat unit for the middle row of seats. Could this be a fuse? We looked today and didn't find any blown. We don't have the owner's manual, so we don't have a fuse panel diagram.

3. Of course, we just bought the truck yesterday and wouldn't you know the stinking 'service engine soon' light would come on today. I'm going to take it tomorrow to see what code it throws. I've read alot about the '99 Expeditions having right-side head gasket leaks. One of the reasons I bought this particular truck is because the engine was nice and dirty instead of spotless. I couldn't find any visible leaks at all and I know they weren't trying to hide any because the engine or engine bay had not been cleaned.

4. Is there a way to re-program the keyless entry code on the door? We don't know the combination to unlock the doors. Also, where can I get a remote that is compatible with the remote keyless entry?

OK. I think that's all for now. Thanks!

I bet ur SES light is the dreaded "evap system leak" code. It could be ANYTHING from a faulty gas cap to a bad vaccum hose somewhere to a bad EGR DPFE sensor. Go by Autozone and they can check it for u 4 free.

The local Ford dealer would have to plug up ur SUV and retreave the keyless code (for a fee). They would also have to reprogram a new key fob for u there (with the SUV there too of course)....

I would go to www.helminc.com and get urself a Ford owners manual and/or service manual though...
Or maybe get lucky and find one on Ebay.

It's seems most questions were answer, The noise on the leveling unit is "not normal." the noise normally indicates the air compressor is working too hard and if not fix it will get burn out. the cause could be , moisture on the air lines, faulty dryer or an air leak. I would have it checked. soon.

"The lights", My 4 year old child love's my truck and some how she found the dimmer switch.
check that firts, it's on the front panel. it could be turn down. go oposite and the lights should come on.

Best of luck.

Lightbulb no re-programing need

no re-programing needed .
a small box under the stering weel behind the fuse panel
on it is your combo

one thing to know is that your keys have a transponder chip in them so if you make a copy
you need to re-program it at the shop

call a locksmith for a keyless remote it shoud be about $20

I just spoke to my son about my 2003 Expedition keyless entry system as my battery had gone dead asand quit working. I replaced the battery and he said to do the following: get into the car, turn the key on/off 8 time within 10 seconds ending in the on position. The door locks will activate, within 20 seconds press any key on the FOB and the door locks will lock/unlock to acknowledge that you FOB is set.
don't know if it will work for you but worth a try.

Batteries Plus sells a replacement key fob to lock/unlock the doors. It comes with specific instructions on how to program it. Much more cost effective than dealer.

Download your owner's manual.
IF you don't have one, you may obtain one here...

Windstar Heat/AC vacuum controls
There is probably enough information in this thread that you can figure out what the problem is, and how to troubleshoot your system.
http://www.ford-forums.com/ford-wind...html#post55494
You may have a vacuum leak.
Possible places are at the switch, or actuator, proably not somewhere in the engine compartment becuase your other controls are functioning.
This will make more sense after you read the above thread.
