Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default problem with electrical

hello i have a 98 expedition wife went out to drive it today and when she started it and turned it off the heater fan wouldn't quit running with the key off i looked at it after work today and found out when i pull the fuse number 15 on the inside fuse box it will power down when the key is off i also noticed when the heater fan had power that so did the turn signals in the manual it says generic electronic module and pats module . also when i pulled the fuse the dome lights don't work untell i turn on the key. does any one have a idea whats wrong ? also about 1 month ago the wife plugged in a cell phone charger into the cig lighter or power spot and she was hearing a sizzling sound around where the cig lighter spot is she said and then the air bag light comes on and under the dash is a box that has 2 relays in it and it was taped up a blue one and a black on when i pull the black relay the heater fan will stop and with the key off i can put in the relay it will stay off tell i turn on the key then it wont turn off . and i was hearing a noise from the pass kick panel that sounded like the warning buzzer and screeching sound so i pulled the kick panel off and used a piece of hose to find the sound and it was coming from the air bag module so i pulled the 2 sets of wires going into it the air bag module.i went out and drove it i went 6 miles and turned it off in 2.5 miles it fired right up i was reading that the pats would only let you go 1/2 mile and shut off . can any one help thanks kelly

I would check into the ignition switch, that sounds like the culprit. let us know what you find.

I would guess the relay is sticking, verify that all fuses are good.
Pats only reads the key on initial start up,so if its not working it wont start or turn over depending on the system.

Just found this from ford, actually i copy and pasted from another thread. Here is the link

http://www.ford-forums.com/ford-expe...ield-leak.html

I had to do a lot of homework regarding this issue and there are some really interesting pieces of info that I found while researching. First, Ford knew they had issues with these vehicles because they relased a Special Service Message to all dealerships in April 2002 stating the following:

*FORD SPECIAL MESSAGE #15773 VARIOUS ELECTRICAL CONDITIONS RESULTING FROM WATER INTRUSION INTO THE GEM/CJB
SOME 1997-2002 EXPEDITION AND 1998-2002 NAVIGATOR VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT VARIOUS UNUSUAL ELECTRICAL CONDITIONS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: FRONT OR REAR BLOWER OR EATC STAYING ON WITH KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, RADIO STAYING ON AFTER DOORS OPENED AND KEY OUT OF IGNITION, WIPER CIRCUIT FAILURE CODES, AND MULTIPLE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS WITH 'SHORT TO POWER' OR 'LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE' DTCS. THESE SYMPTOMS MOST OFTEN OCCUR AFTER A RAIN OR SNOW.
THIS MAY BE DUE TO GEM/CJB WATER INTRUSION RESULTING FROM A WINDSHIELD WATER LEAK. TO SERVICE, REMOVE THE GEM AND CJB FROM THE VEHICLE, SEPARATE THEM AND INSPECT FOR WATER CONTAMINATION OR CORROSION. IF FOUND IN EITHER COMPONENT, REPLACE BOTH COMPONENTS AND COMPLETELY RESEAL THE WINDSHIELD.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 04/05/2002

My windshield was leaking also. I used silicone, you have one person hold the rubber up off the car and you lay a bead all the way accross the top of the windshield and my leak is gone. When it did leak, i had major electrical problems, not anymore after my fix. I guess you now know, 2 or three people with leaking windshields.
