Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default 2000 expedition starter problem

Tried to start my 2000 EB expedition (220,000 miles). All lights came on, but it acted like car was in gear. Nothing. Next day, it fired up like normal. Took it in and they said battery connections were bad. Happened again. Waited for about 20 minutes, and it fired up. Had starter replaced. Happened again. Had transmission safety switch replaced. Happened again. There is absolutely no predictability to when it will start and when it won't. Always starts after sitting overnight. But other times I may have driven only a few miles when it acts up. Anyone have same problem?

Do you have the factory anti theft system? If so, first try a different key.

Thanks for the note. I do have the factory theft system. Could it be as simple as using a different key? This has been so frustrating because you never know when it is not going to start. It is like there is a short. One of the threads said that he replaced the starter relay motor in the firewall. Does the 2000 have one of these? I appreciate any advice you might have.

I was having the same problem with my 2000 Expedition, and once I was finally tired of starting my truck (crossing the solenoid) with a screw driver I replaced the starter solenoid and I haven't had a problem since. Very easy fix!
