Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

One guy put this on you tube.

It is a serious problem. I was told thread engagement was only 1.5-2.5 at most.
My 99 is paid for, won't last forever but not sure if I would go Expedition route again.
I pull a 30' travel trailer, so far helicoil has held up after 18 months. Fingers crossed.

I am hoping there is some sort of relatively easy visual inspection or clue. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Two ways to find out about blown plugs. Ask the owner for the maintenance records and if he has fixed any plug problems in the past. Take the car for a drive by way of an Auto parts that will read the cars computer. That will only tell you what codes are present now but thats good data. If its not missing on the Tach I wouldn't over worry it. vann

Thanks Vann-
I think my plan will be to fork out some money and have a Ford dealership (or other Ford expert) go over the rig top to bottom prior to buying it. Getting the computer read out is a good start.

I would also have them pull the warranty history on that SUV, it might show a repeat problem...?
