Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
My 2004 EB Expedition 5.4 has 83,000 miles. In the morning when I crank it I can hear a rattle (lifters) for just a couple of seconds. I am running a Valvoline synthetic mix. Should I go full synthetic or is there something else I can do to make sure the top part of the motor stays lubricated. Thanks>JP
Before your next oil change add a whole can of Seafoam brand treatment to your crankcase. Drive around the block and let the SUV idle for approx 5 minutes. Then drain the old oil out and add a new MOTORCRAFT oil filter & the same Valvoline motor oil you have been using. Hopefully a 5W30 or 10W30 blend?

I think you are right about the filter TBIRD. I have always used Motorcraft products in my Fords and have never had this problem.
This is what I get for letting the local fast lube change my oil. Thanks for the info>JP
My 2005 Expelotion 5.4 started rattling lifters at about 50k miles. This happens at start, when hot, and low RPM/high load situations. The dealer said occasionally a lifter or two will just fail to pump up after so many miles, and recommended replacing all of them. I do not know if I want to tackle that job, since over half of the engine is crammed under the windshield.
