Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
Well yes, It's called paracidic(spelling?) drag.. When you have it in full time 4wd the engine loses power getting the wheels to turn because you've just added another set of wheels to push... In 2wd, you only have the back or front.. Thats why the difference between crank HP and wheel HP in all-wheel drive cars is bigger than rear or front-wheel drive.
Did that help any?
..and 99Expy's guess of 10% is about what I would say too.
I can't comment on the Expedition but I do know this. I bought the first year Ford Escape 4x4 v6 and it was HORRIBLE with gas mileage. I would regularly get 12-13 mpg city. There were some other issues that prompted my change, but I bought an Expedition and I regularly get 14.4 - 14.8 mpg city with the 4.6L v8.
In the instance of the Escape - the 4x4 made a big difference.
