Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

A good tuneup is a good place to start.
Spark Plugs, PCV, and air filter. Check for vacuum leaks, clean your MAF, and IAC, check coolent level,

Followed by pulling diagnostic codes, some places like autozone will pull them for free.
Get the codes we can better help you then.

if you have over 100,000 miles its time to replace O2 sensors. They're kinda expensive to replace all four, but with mileage like that, if they are the cause it wouldn't take long to make your money back.

I'd pull codes before replacing them and try all the other stuff mentioned above first!

I agree with the guys above. I'd also recommend a can of Sea Foam brand fuel treament on a 1/2 tank of gas. =o)

How many miles are on this SUV? How do you use this SUV (in town, highway traveling only, towing, etc?).

Why don't you post that article on 35% better mileage with just one foot.?
Other than making sure the engine is in top shape, that has to be the biggest/worst issue with poor mileage.

Joe's right. I'm not saying there aren't issues with your vehicle, but driver habits are the biggest cause of bad gas mileage.

I first learned what a difference driving style can make when I had my first Explorer. It had the trip computer and with it the gas mileage readout. It taught me to drive conservatively. I could get 3-4 more MPG by driving it gently than by driving it like everyone else on the road.

I've carried that over to my Excursion. It's a very heavy beast, but I can still get 12mpg or better in city driving if I'm careful. If I'm not I get 9.x.

It's going to be tough to get much better mileage than you're getting. The worst thing for mileage is stop and go. You have bad drivers to dodge, potholes to slow down for, etc.

Default Iridium Plugs

I purchased my 02 Expedition in 04 used, use it for business, I adveraged 10.1 to 10.2 MPG according to the computer. I replaced the plugs with Iridium Plugs 6 months ago, now I read 11.3 to 11.4 MPG. It seemed to peak off at those numbers, still a reasonable gain. I continuously carry a lot of weight, (Materials, Tools, Fully Loaded) When we were at $4.00 a gallon, gaining a mile per gallon sure adds up.
