Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default Vibration From Dead stop???

I recently purchased a 03 expedition with the 5.4 liter & 3.73 limited slip rear end. I notice a vibration when accelerating around a corner from a dead stop. My local ford dealer says I need to replace the clutches in the rear end. This vehicle has only 45k miles??? Has anyone else had a similar experience. I have had a lot of cars with posi's and never had clutch problems with that low of miles! To you mechanic's out there, can a slightly above average wrench replace those clutches in his garage???
Thanks all!
ED.

I had the same problem. It seems to come from the front, but really it IS the clutch packs in the limited slip differential. I fixed my problem by changing the rear differential fluid and adding the required Ford friction modifier. I changed my fluid out completely since I had over 120,000 miles, but it is expensive stuff and may not be necessary in your case. Many people have tried adding just a bit more friction modifier (about 1/4 of the small container) and this solved their problem. The latter is a $5 fix and you have nothing to lose by doing it. Use a 3/8 ratchet and remove the fill plug from the differential. If necessary use a suction tube to remove a small amount of gear oil so you can add the friction modifier (you might not have to do this if the diff still has room for a few ounces. Hope this helps.

Edlanta, I am also having the same problem. I have a 2003 with 40,000 miles. Did you take the guys advice? I don't know much about cars so I was wondering if it worked. I don't know what to do. Should I take this suggestion to my mechanic?? Anyone... Am I damaging my vehicle by driving it???
