Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
If you have replaced starters before, than it should be no problem. If you have never replaced a starter before, you picked a big vehicle to learn on. Any other symptoms, why do you think it needs a starter?

Thanks 99expy................The problem appears primarily when it gets cold outside, like now. When I turn the key the bendix or push rod seems to either remain engaged or partially protruded and therefore make an aweful metal noise. Eventually it retracts or the noise stops. This is not an issue in the summer. Sometimes the rod misses all together and that results in a whiny buzzing sound. Warmth seems to help it go away. Perhaps an under lubricated rod (piston on the starter...........?????????????? What do you think? Thanks for any guidance.
Is their a voltage regulator in the system that could be sending a weak signal to the starter? I don't know, just asking. Have you checked for good tight connections, maybe something came loose?
Do not attempt to keep driving with that symptom or not only will you be replacing the starter, but you'll also be replacing the flywheel. Starters are super simple. Disconnect the ground from the battery like previously stated, get the truck up as high as possible on jack stands, block/chock the back wheels, disconnect the wires from the starter, remove the bolts, remove the starter, replace in opposite order.
