Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

I believe this is related to your other post. I wish I could change the plugs on my Expedition, but I don't have the place to do it. My Eclipse and Yamaha motorcycle, no problem. In my own experience, the first guy to change the plugs on my 99 I thought he knew what he was doing. After #4 plug blew, I found a shop that could helicoil the threads and also replaced all the plugs with the CORRECT plugs I thought my buddy had used previously. Ask around, bottom line is find someone who has experience doing it and doing it properly. Hope this helps.

I can't find torque specs for a 4.6L or 5.4, but for my '98 windstar 3.8 it is only 7.5 to 15 foot lbs.

WHat's the deal with plug blow out?

5.4's head design has very limited thread engagement machined into the head, and it is a long way to get to the plug. This has resulted in a bunch of spark plug blow outs, where the plug's are blown out of the head. There is a subject on this on this forum if you search, also google 5.4 engine spark plug blowouts. Folks are trying to get Ford to do a recall, but because there are so many 5.4 engines out their, the reported number of this type problem is still relatively low. Most shops will want you to replace the head at $2000-$3000, but their is a repair kit out their that installs a helicoil in the head.

Here is what my friends and I with X's have learned. As sealed as the coil appears to be against the head dirt does get down in the hole. It is very important that ALL the dirt is removed or it gets trapped under the plug so even if you torque it it has dirt sandwiched under it. After a few cycles the dirt / sand crushes and the plug is now free to move. So a very clean hole, anti seize and proper torque and all should be good.
