Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
I am looking a buying a 98 Expedition and was wondering what i should look for when i go and check it out. Any little gotchas or such i should know about.
It is a fully loaded Eddie Bauer edition with sun roof and about every option that they came with.
The reason i am tempted by this vehicle is that my father knows the guy who owns it and knows that is was extremly well taken care of. I used to have one of these a couple of years back and really miss it.
I have been watching this forum for several months now and one of the things I have learned is with the Eddie Bauer edition, the self leveling suspension system seems to be the Achilles Heel of this vehicle. When it works, it works great, but if you ever have to repair it you are looking at some serious dollars. I really like the Expeditions and will upgrade from a 99 to a 05 sometime this summer, but I won't get the self leveling suspension. Just my 2 cents worth, good luck.
Well i got my Expedition. It does not have the self leveling suspension so that won't be an issue. I was amazed at how good of shape is was in when i went to look at it. I only found 2 tiny dimples from door dings in the body. No scratches or anything. So far after 3 days it has been running perfect.
I was even impressed as it was -20 below and it started without any hesitation. My Windstar and Chevy Colorado both struggled to start in the cold.
So far I only found a couple of issues. The heater blower appears to be loosing it's bearings, the connections for the CD changer need to be cleaned as it has some static, and the drivers side window binds at the top of the track and pops into place.
