Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default Throttle Body Spacer and Intake

Vehicle: 1998 Expedition 5.4

I was thinking about ordering the Airaid TBS and Intake and installing it in my Expy but before I drop about $350 on the two items, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the installation (ie, is it pretty easy/straight forward) and if anyone has any thoughts on how useful it would be? I'm looking for just about any method to increase fuel efficiency.

Thanks!

Thumbs up

You would be better off replacing spark plugs & wires, fuel filter, O2 sensors, and getting the trans, coolant, rear diff, and fuel system flushed.

Mm...

Plugs replaced
Fuel filter replaced
Front/Rear diff changed
Trans/filter changed

I had the 02 sensors tested today and apparently they are still good. I requested they be changed otherwise.

What I have done is installed the Tornado, K&R filter and one of those fuel boss'. I'm not sure if they'll make a difference or not. On a very limited test, I drove my truck 38 miles and averaged 15.8 MPG before installing (and Sea Foaming), then drove the same route a second time afterwords and got 15.9 MPG. Not much of an increase.

I've decided the throttle body spacer is a total waste of money as thats what nearly every post has said. I'm still up in the air on the intake though. There seems to be a lot of people who speak highly of them and then a lot who don't. For now, I'm just going to skip it.

Anyways, again, thanks for all the good advice. Someday hopefully I can return the favor to someone else.

A true cold air intake would be the best bang for the buck. I think K+N may make one.

Did you even notice anything with the Tornado?

What looks good to me.

K+N 57 SERIES HIGH FLOW PERFORMANCE AIR INTAKE KITS
MAGNUM FORCE STAGE 2 COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM
VOLANT PERFORMANCE COOL AIR INTAKE KITS

The reason why I say these kits is because I have heard about them on TV shows and seen them in person and heard from their owners.

I ordered the K&N 57 Series Intake. From the customer reviews, it seems to be the best overall.
