Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Post Keyless Entry Engine Start

howdy!

New to the ford forum. Just purchased a 2001 Expedition w/ 60k from a dealer. Real nice, as I have been a Ford / Lincoln / Mercury man all my life.

I used the original code and was programming in my own code (or at least trying to) and remembered there was a key you press after you type in the original code, then type in your new one. I also know there is a key to press to open all doors rather than just the drivers. So, while pressing keys-o-plenty, all of a sudden, the engine STARTED!! It scared the cr*p out of me as it was certainly unexpected. I couldnt shut the engine down with the keypad, or with the keychain clicker. So I opened the door, sat in the truck, and when I pressed the brake (to shift the gear) it shut off.

I was able to reproduce it 2 more times, but dont know the exact sequence. It has to do with entering the original code twice, and then the #3/4 key somewhere...
Has anyone else come across this? Does anyone know what the true functionality is with the keypad? Obviously, its a lot more than manual says.

Anyone? Anyone?

Seems to me like you have a remote starter built into your ford system. What does your keyless remote look like. If you a blue switch on your keyless remote, point it at the vehicle and hold it down for about 30 seconds. If your horn beeps, then shortly after it should start. Once it starts you have to put your key in the ignition and turn to the on position and then press the brake. If you dont have it on your remote then try and start the vehicle again using the pad and put the key in the ignition and turn to the on position and then press the brake, it shouldn't cut off.
