Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default 97 Expedition, 4 X 4 won't turn on

When turning the switch to 4H or 4L the 4 X 4 doesn't turn on. There are no indicator lights on dash when the switch is turned. The front wheels also are not powered. What could be the problem? Thanks. C J

Make sure you are in neutral with foot on the brake when going from $H to 4L. If you are I would suspect fuse first, for transfer case. You can search on this forum for more info.

Did make sure am in neutral with foot on brake when gong from 4H to 4L. Checked fuse (#17) and it is fine. I think a key is that there is no dash indication when switching from 2H to A4WD or to 4H or 4L. And front wheels are not powered at any of the settings (A4WD, 4H, 4L). Thanks. Any other ideas?

I think the Expedition 4wd where all 4wd all the time, in either high or low. You don't have a 2H, I don't believe. Can you give us any more symptoms?

I checked again. The switch reads (clockwise) 2H, A4WD, 2H, 2L. Bascially, nothing happens when turning the switch to any setting. Front wheels are not powered in any setting. And no indicator lights show up on the dashboard. I'm thinking I have a bad switch (terminals coroded?). I have an appointment scheduled with the dealer on July 29. Thanks.

I have 05 with a similar problem. 4x4 works randomly if I engage it into 4h while moving about 40-50 mph. All the dealer wants to do is hook it to a computer.
