Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default 2000 Expedition Problems

I have a 2000 Expedition, Eddie Bauer, with 141000 miles on it. I got it cheap last year when gas was over $4/gallon. I have 2 problems I wanted to ask about. The answers are probably hiding on the forum some place. Any help is welcome.

1. The odometer display comes on then it shuts off. Sometimes it is very dim. It is random and isn't affect by having the headlights on or off. It is keeping track of miles.

2. When you have the vent or AC on and turn the temperature up it will stay warm for a couple of minutes then go back to blowing cooler air out of the vents. If I lower the temp and then move it back to warm it does the same thing again. This is only on the front vents, the rear systems works fine.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!!!!

1. very common problem, there is a "cold" solder in one of the circuit boards. Mine does it Ive learnt to live with it for now. However there is a write up on the fix on a different site, if you like I can find it for you and post the link.

Regarding the AC
Do you have an automatic temperature control, or manual?

Sorry forgot to mention. I have the automatic temp. control. Blowing cold air is not problem if I'm using the auto setting or not. The warm air doesn't blow warm very long if I have it set on automatic or manual. Hope that helps.

OK, if I understand you correctly, you do not have sufficient HEAT.

Check your coolent level.

Otherwise it could be a clogged heater core, and less likely a malfunctioning blend door.
Check you r coolent level and let us know we can point you in the right direction. We have seen this problem before, once or twice. Right cowboy?

When I put the temp. all the way to 90 the air is very hot, but it only stays hot for a minute or 2 then it starts blowing cooler air. I've had the radiator flushed twice since I've bought it. Once I did it and the other time a mechanic did it. The coolant level is good. Could the heater core still be clogged or just bad? If so how can I tell? Any info about the blend door would be welcome. I assume the blend door is in the dash and something I might be able to fix myself?

Sorry that I missed your reply months ago, I thought cowboy would have jumped in, but I guess he missed it too.

This thread may be helpful for you, but yes unless your automatic temp controller is moving the blend door, I suspect that your core may be clogged.
