Engine nose when pressing the gass 2003 eddie bauer expo
Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition with a 5.4 V8, and I don't hear any clicking or ticking in my engine. I'd say there's an issue. How big of an issue is the question. Maybe someone here who is more mechanically minded can help give you a better answer, but I would have to say that it's not normal.
You know, I get the same noise. It sounds like a rattling sound in the engine bay as i'm accelerating. I kind of want to say it sounds like the pistons or something... Any ideas?
Could possibly be spark knock. Alays get good gas at the recommended grade. Might want to have pcm updated. Updating pcm will not eliminate spark knock but it can help.
Ticking, clicking, rattling etc could be lotsa things. I like to have a few experts listen in & get their opinions.
A have a small exhaust leak pht pht that comes on with acceleration from a stop & some kinda mild knock tick that i'm not sure about but pretty sure it's from inside the engine.
Depending what it is, it could be minor or major but hard to tell lotsa times how serious & often not worth bothering with cos it may not affect the engine drastically for a long time & usually not worth taking the engine apart to sort it out unless you have to. The money that may be involved in going in the engine (depending what the prob is) can quickly get to a point where it might be cheaper to replace wtih a good used one
Sorta like if it goes, it goes & if it does I'll look for a used engine in my situation.
Good to rule out easy cheap stuff first. Might be worth it to take the valve covers off to have a look in there & do the other easier stuff others have mentioned.
Got a used GM car with a 3.4 that I bought with 200 clicks on it that clicked or tapped from the start & have put 70 more clicks on it with the same noise. Pretty sure it's piston slap on that one.
You can get internal engine noises on engines that have miles on them that wouldn't be there when new or newer & sounds like that might be what's going on here
i would also say its not normal but can also be real hard to tell if anything to worry about. Biggest thing to watch out for is a distinct diff (like suddenly lots worse) or something like a major increase in oil consumption.
Here's what to check for tick under load, on any engine.
Oil level/quality-Low oil, or bad oil can cause audible ticks
Coolant level/quality-One thing a lot of people don't realize is that if your coolant is bad, it DOESN'T disperse the engine's heat, causing the oil to get far more than it should, which cooks the oil and renders it worthless.
Transmission fluid level/quality-Low tranny oil can cause your gears to not mesh properly, which can tick and echo off the flywheel, making you think it's engine noise.
Accessory bearings-Power steering, alternator, idler pulley, a/c compressor, and the fan clutch (if so equipped). When you accelerate, you tighten the belt, and can be putting pressure on a bad bearing, or even have a bad belt.
Accessory belt- see above
The last thing to check is lifters/spark plugs/coils. Why? Because those are things that everybody remembers (spark plugs), or things that just don't go out that easily (lifters and coil over coils).
Hope that list helps, I know it's daunting...but checking the fluids doesn't take too long, and any mechanic or experienced person can tell you if they're good or not.
