Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
Two days ago, when I got out of my 2003 Expedition, I smelled a strong odor of burning rubber. It might be my imagination, but it seemed like it was coming more from the rear. There is no smell when cold, only when up to normal temps. It's the kind of smell that reminds you of a hot radiator hose. I did a quick cursory check of the obvious -- no fluid on the ground, all gauges read normal, no unusual sounds or vibrations. Other than the smell, there is no other sympton whatsoever. Anybody have a clue as to what to look at next, or should I just take it in to the stealer?
Had same problem started about a month ago increasingly worse as time went by.Well three days ago noticed steam and water from the fire wall area. Yes I was hoping for a bad hose what I have is a bad heater core now i get to take my dash all apart. Decided to just bypass heater core for now I live in florida. Have more important issues with this ford never will own another one.I think I'm being punished for buying a ford! It's my first and last, well i had a 62 fairlane 500 but that does not count that was a different car back then!
Might wanna check the right rear of the vehicle for coolant leak if you have the auxilary heater. Might be leaking enough to steam but not enough to cause a puddle. Just something to check.
Thanks for the suggestions -- the smell seems to have gone away (for now?) so maybe it was something that touched the exhaust, but it smelled more rubbery than plastic. Yes, I have the rear heat and A/C -- I've not seen any steam or indications of leaks back there either. My coolant level is at the right level. Still a mystery for now -- if it returns, maybe I'll bring it by the stealer to check out...
