Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default 06 Expedition EB making noise at ignition

All,

Recently purchased 06 EB. I have noticed within the last week or so that after it sits for a period of time when I start the engine is makes a loud rumble noise. Almost like the engine rev's up too high, but then goes to idle like normal. Like I said, I only see this happen when it sits for a period of time ie.. more than a few hours.. Any ideas? Thanks

Angry 06 Expedition XLT noise on start up

Bought a Expedition 06, March of 06 it is now sitting on the Ford dealer lot because of this noise upon initial start up. Sounds like a grinding (metal to metal), or even a tool or nut or bolt being thrown around upon initial start after vehicle has been driven for a while and then parked. According to Ford Engineer it is a normal??? noise upon start up because of the air compressor fluids not running properly on a cold engine. I was advised to turn the A/C off before I started the vehicle... yea right and it is brand new?!?! Apparently Ford thinks this is normal on a $32,000 vehicle that sounds like a piece of C--P on initial start. The vehicle is still on the lot after over 40 days and 3x sent in for the same problem. I an afraid to drive it because Ford cannot guarantee me 100% that this is what the problem is and also guarantee that the vehicle will not catch on fire, blow the engine or stall. So we have filed the lemon law on the vehicle through Ford Motor and are also doing it through our state. Appreciate any feedback or any comments of others doing the same Ford claims that it is normal than I feel that they should all make the "normal" sound. Thanks::

Thumbs up Thanks

Hey I guess they weren't lying huh when they said some of them make the noise, but so far just you and I and I have checked every web site there is. They claim the noise is louder on some than others, but my word we can here it in the house and the car is started downstairs... I am prepared for a battle with Ford. If it were normal I would think that many more consumers were hearing this noise.. but we shall perservere!!!!!!!!!!! ALOHA

My new '05 EB does it too. I have not been in to see the dealer yet for service. I will mention it and see if they give me the same run around. Its funny, if I drive it everyday, the noise is gone. If I let it sit a day or two it does it on the first start up. Sounds like a lack of oil problem. Maybe the synthetic oil they use in these things is so thin that it all drains to the pan if it sits for a day?

Angry 06 Noise

HI, Ford(the dealer) is gonna' give you the damn run around and then say they don't know what it is and bring an engineer in and then say it is the compresor on the a/c and they all make that noise... B.S. they say that it has been happening since 02 on all the Exp's ... well they had 4 years to correct the problem yea!!! and still the noise exist...see my earlier thread... we are in the process of the battle with Ford because as a consumer I do not think we should have to accept cars like this...or they should have an adivisory in the Owners Manual or the sales people should have advised us before we bought it...because I would not hav bought had I known the noise existed!! I am sure if we all knew we would have looked for something else. My 99 ran like a charm... and this one sounds like a DIESEL... would have bought a F250/350 if diesel was what I wanted... Keep me informed and thankx for letting me vent!!!!

Hello,
My Expidition that I purchased 10/05 is doing the same thing and has been since the vehilcle was new. The dealer is giving me the same story about thre A/C. It is currently at the dealer for the 4th time for this same problem. I am refusing to pick this truck up and demand a rental car until they resolve this issue.

Talking 05 Expedition making noise like 06

Just to let you know you can file a complaint with FMCo., about this and if it is the 4th time you also can try the lemon law if your state has it. I think its 24,000 miles or two yrs old, which ever comes first. They want to loan you a FoRD FOCUS!!!! That is what they were lending us until I filpped a switch and blew up at them...If I wanted that wierd little car I would havebought it in the first place and not have a 500.00 car payment!!! Stay strong, GOOD LUCK and keep us informed.. all the info helps.

Wink 05 eb

I do not know if this is any comfort, but I have a 05 EB that is doing the same thing as you all have been talking about upon startup. I bought the vehicle with 5500 miles and it currently has about 13000. I have taken the vehicle in several times for the problem. The first time it was not duplicated. The second time it was attributed to a blown o-ring on a return AC line.. The the last time, I was given a copy of a service bulliten from FORD explaining that the noise is due to AC fluxuation when starting a cold vehicle. They stated that it is normal and doesn't hurt anything. I was told to AC system on vent before shutting off and it would reduce the chance of the noise occuring.

I have actually searched the web and there is alot out there on this. I would have to be convinced that many people are experincing the same problem. Whether it is right or not, alot of consumers are hearing the same thing on thier expeditions.....

I don't know if I am having the same problem or not, but on occasion I have noticed that my 2000 Expedition will make a shrill noise whenever I try to crank it up. I thought it was the starter, and actually had it replaced with a brand new one and a few days later the same thing happened. I took it back to the mechanic and he said jhe fixed the problem with a selanoid. That was August 21, 2006, and my @#$#%^ truck is still having this problem. I am taking it to the Ford Dealership, but wondered if anyone out there could give me any info?.......I am lost and tired of shelling out $$$$ and having the same problems.
