Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Angry How to replace driver's side door lock

I am new to the site very happy I've found it.

Here we go-

I have a '98 Ford Exp. that was a car thief tried to break into at the mall.
popped my lock you can hear it rolling around when you press the window button. however, the window will not stay up, and i can't use the inside door handle.

I need advice on:

1. Step by step instruction on how to remove the inside door panel.

2. How to replace the door lock.

3. List of Parts needed.

4. List of Tools needed.

5. The best place to purchase the products.

Winter, is coming I need to fix this quickly. Also, your opinion would be greatly appreciated if you think I should Repair it myself, take it to a collision shop, or to the Dealer.

Thanks

Mark

For step by step, buy a subscription to Alldata. They have the best (factory) diagrams for door panels and door guts. You'll need a door trim fastener remover tool (any auto parts store--about $5). You'll also need a 1/4" drive and 3/8" drive metric socket set.

As for parts, you'll need a new lock cylinder (if the old one was damaged) and a new lock retainer clip (a spring steel clip). You may also need new lock rod clips. If they damaged the sheet metal, you may need a trim ring (have to search the Internet for that. There are companies that make them to fit your vehicle - search for lock cylinder trim).

Most of these parts are available from rockauto.com. But first go to dormanproducts.com, enter your vehicle info and find the part names and numbers. That way you can just enter the part number into the rockauto site. If rockauto doesn't carry the parts, you'll have to go to the dealer.

This is not a hard repair if you have the diagrams. It goes together like tinker-toys (are you old enough to remember them?)

Good luck
