Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
Has anyone experienced a "popping" sound- like metal contracting/expanding on cold days? I have had this problem with my 2004 Expedition since purchasing new- but it has been very intermittent. Now I now that it is directly related to the temperature outside (approx. 50 degrees or less). Worse when it's below freezing outside. I notice it "pops" when idling, or stopping and accelerating at a stop sign or traffic light, and after I turn the car off within a minute or two. AGAIN- only when it's cold out... The "pop" sound seems to come from the rear drivers side. As the day heats up- (as it always does in Colorado)- the popping stops.....so it's been difficult to isolate the problem.
Luckily today I was picking up my car from the dealership service center- and with the weather colder than it has been- sure enough- "pop"! The service manger was with me and heard the "pop" but said he didn't know it's cause and would probably have to take apart the rear trim package to try to see if something is wrong in the welding, or something else. So I'm wondering- HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD THIS "P0P" SOUND IN THEIR 2004 EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION on cold days?????
it nothing to worry about this is normal in all cars some louder then others.
its the exhust madofold and exhust pipes expanding. this will do this on worm
up and cooling off after shutting engine off
Thanks for your reply- but I don't know that this is so common....I have never heard this before in any car I have owned (2 other Ford SUV's)- There seems to be a defect somewhere and other Expedition owners haven't replied back that they have this same noise- so I really think something is wrong- probably not dangerous- but not normal sounding. This is a loud "pop" sound. Would be curious to hear from others if they have same thing....
