Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default '04 Expedition XLT Starter Problems...

I took my '04 Exped. XLT in for service at 50K miles. They changed the oil, replaced the rear brakes, rotated & balanced the tires (about $450 of work done), and did a multi-point inspection. However, when I received my truck back, the truck began have problems starting. I'd turn the key and it would try to crank over but I'd either have to hold it or turn the key back and start it again to get it started. This is an intermittent problem and one that I could not duplicate for the dealer, of course.

The weather here in Maryland has not been extremely cold so cold temps appears not to be the issue. So I took the truck to the dealer that I originally bought it from and asked to duplicate the problem and fix it as well as do another multi-point inspection. They were able to duplicate the problem and replace the wiring harness for the starter. They also found that the battery was well below the charge that it is supposed to hold so I had them replace that. The multi-point inspection did not reveal anything else. Another $450 bucks for parts and labor.

So now, I am back to square one with this starter problem. So now I have a new starter wiring harness and a new battery and I am still having this starting issue. I am taking it back to the dealer again on Monday so that they can fix this issue. I refuse to spend anymore money.

Has anyone on this forum experienced the same issue with their Expediton? Your help is very much appreciated.

Default I am having this nightmare now

I am going through a similar problem as u described with my 2004 xlt.
Initially the mechanic said it was the alternator problem.
Now it is a computer problem.
The starter seems to be doing fine..

sincerely

Shri,

Is your problem resolved now? The Service Manager told me yesterday that after he witnessed the problem, they have not been able to duplicate it again. Which is complete bull. This truck is doing this and I find it hard to believe that they are telling me that there is nothing they can really do unless it does it again. It's happening and I think that because the truck is still under warranty and to fix this problem would require them to do some work that they are not receiving cash for, they don't want to be bothered.

I am so frustrated with this whole deal now. I am just trying to wrap my head around the fact that my truck never did this for the first 51,000 miles, they have witnessed what it is doing and they are now telling me they can't fix it. He is supposed to call me back today and if I don't get resolution, I am asking for his boss, then the owner, the letters to the owner and Ford Motor Corporation.

If you have any suggestions on what to ask them have they done or to try this or try that, I'd certainly appreciate. I see there is a phone number under your name and I am not sure if it is okay to call you. I am just looking for my truck to be fixed and to get it back.... Thanks for any help you can provide.....

Shri,

Here's where I am on this now. Ford Motor Company is now involved and I am sending a letter of complaint to the president of the dealership I have been dealing and copying Ford Motor Company as well. The Service Manager at that dealership said he experienced the problem once and has not since and because of that and the fact that they can't catch it on a machine or pinpoint the problem exactly, Ford does not want them to spend time working on issues like mine. Well, I informed the Customer Care Rep from Ford that called me and she said that he should not have told me that.

I also spoke with a Ford Service Tech at another dealership and he told me that the dealership that I have been dealing with doesn't want to fix my problem because my truck is still under warranty. I also have been in contact online with another Ford tech in the midwest and he said that it appears that they have put me on the back burner and there are several things that the service department should have been doing to fix my problem but they weren't.

I am taking my truck to another Ford Dealer on Monday to have my problem resolved. Thanks for your reply back and I will keep the board informed on the outcome of this situation.
