Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
Well I pulled the fusebox/GEM assembly, and I noticed that my fusebox needs to be replaced. There is blue corrosion inside caused by water seeping down through the window seal. I guess I have to spend the $159 for a new fuse box, and then put the GEM that I got from a guy for $50. Hopefully, I can get this whole thing fixed for about $200 and a bunch of time/effort
Have you had any more problems since your DIY repairs?
I would like to do the same if you care to provide additional steps on the sealing and replacements.
I do not (yet...) have the problem with features activating by themselves,
but I've had the problem, once a year ago, then over 3 days 2 months ago, then again yesterday afternoon (after 2 days of light sporadic rainstorms) when I experienced a total loss of electrical, either when I put the key in the switch or as soon as I start turning it, or when I turn the headlights on.
When I say total loss of electrical, I mean not dash lights, no fan, no bell, not even the underhood light will come on.
As of the episode 2 months ago, I accidentally realized that disconnecting the battery terminals and letting it sit for a while seemed to reset whatever fault condition it was in, and recover the underhood light, but it would "trip" again repeatedly, until I let it sit disconnected overnight.
Reading all these helpful posts, I realize that the disconnect is probably only resetting the "trip-ped" condition, but the real fix must be to give the flooded components/connections favorable conditions and time to dry-out.
Thank you all for your posts and solutions. Just today I have experienced this problem for the first time. It rained last night. When in reverse or drive, the radio turns off and the wipers stay on or off depending whether they were on or off when I went into drive or reverse. Nothing else is affected electronically. I will pull the fuse box tonight and see what I can find. Certainly all your posts help me narrow down what I am looking for.
I'm glad to hear that I am not the only person experiencing this. Unfortunately, I'm not glad to hear that Ford is doing nothing about it. I don't have an extra $1200.00 lying around to fix a problem that Ford should be fixing.
Has anyone had any luck with Ford at all? My Expedition has left me stranded twice this week, in the middle of a four-lane highway during 5 o'clock traffic.
The old winshield leaks situation a? My family member came down and tested my windshield to find no leaks at all. We unhooked the keyless entry module located behind the emergency brake because the theft light kept flashing and this prevents the truck from starting. We drove the truck two days with no problem. We could not use the electric locks, or the horn, but the truck ran fine. I had to drive my truck thirty miles to get the right answers. My local dealer was about six miles up the street. My local told me it would be around $1200.00. Greenville's finest! Washington could not find anything wrong, and never charged me a dime. They seem to think I reset the computer by unplugging those wires. Is your theft light blinking? Try unhooking the module!
nd anything wronMy wife and I own a expedition. We spoke with a tech from our local dealer here in greenville. The old windshield leaking syndroym. Unfortunately, we have a windshield certified tech in the family for over fifteen years. The following day, he ran several checks on the glass as well as a pressure test and guess what? No water! We started looking at several wires under the dash, and ended up unplugging the keyless entry module located by your emergency break pedal. The truck ran fine the next two days. We ended up taking the truck thirty miles away to another dealer, and they found no problem after the wires were plugged back in. to this day, the truck runs fine, and the ford tech can't find anything wrong.
I have a 2000 Expy that was experiencing the same problems....wipers only working in neutral or reverse, dash board black and car would not start. You could hear wires sizzling under the dashboard!!!!
I thank you for your posts about the windshield problem. Like many of you I don't have the extra $1,200 to spend. So, I called a windshield repair guy who came out to my office and sealed areas of the windshield and A frame with urethane for $85.00.
We had a very heavy rain this morning and luckily my car started right up. I am sure the GEM & fuse box need to be replaced, but we wanted to see if this was going to solve the problem before we put in the extra $....so far so good!
I have same problem with 2000 expedition; blower stays on when key removed. I already had Walnut Creek Ford replace Gem box; year later problem is back. Ford dealer wanted over $1,000 to replace window...I'm going to try windshield repair shop reseal for $60. BTW, I have to replace brakes every 20,000 miles. How absurd is that!!!
I am having the same problem w/my expedition. Luckily mine has 63K miles. You say Ford will pay for the repairs? How do I go about arranging that? Through the dealer or do I have to contact Ford ? Any help you can give me in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

HVAC blower turns on after you remove the key. I disconnect terminal from battery when I park it. Once it dries out, it is fine (I don't think my GEM Module is bad).
I talked to the glass guy at Ford dealership. I told him I want to do it myself, and he kind of scoffed at me...maybe because I was wearing a suit and tie. He sold me a tube of urethane auto glass sealer and gave me a little tool to spread it around the windshield.
Once I finish the windshield I will come back and let you all know how it went.
One more thing...the told me that Ford will take care of this for free if you have less than 75000 miles. I have 94K...that sucks!!!
