| | Guest | FORD EXPEDITION STARTING PROBLEMS I have a 1999 Ford Expedition with 136,000 miles on it. It starts great but dies after about 2 secs. If I remove the rubber hose from the throttle body, the vehicle runs normal. As soon as I put the hose on the throttle body, the engine cuts off. The fuel pressure is 30 PSI at idle. When the engine dies the fuel pressure jumps to 40 PSI. Does anyone have any ideas? | |

| | Guest | mY FRIEND BROUGHT AN AIR FILTER FROM A COLD AIR SYSTEM. HIS WAS FOR A HONDA, BUT WHEN I TRIED IT ON MY EXPEDITION, IT WANTED TO DIE. THE FILTER WAS SMALL TO WHERE THERE WAS LITTLE AIR GOING THROUGH. MAYBE THERE ISINT ENOUGH AIR GOING THROUGH THE INTAKE ON YOURS. CHECK INSIDE THE TUBES, THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING STUCK THAT DOESENT LET THE AIR THROUGH, OR MAYBE CHECK THE AIR FILTER. | |

| | Guest | I thought that, but I removed the air cleaner, all of the small hoses and sensor from the intake tube, inspected the tube to make sure nothing was inside....and still no luck. I remove the throttle body intake tube and start the vehicle, as soon as I place the empty intake tube near the throttle body the engine shuts off. Most people were telling me that it was probably the fuel pump, so I changed that last night with no improvement to the situation. I am still looking. | |

| | Guest | Well I finally found the problem, really simple, a piece of crud was stuck in my MAP sensor. I removed it and sprayed some spray cleaner on it. The vehicle nows runs perfectly again. | |

| | Guest | Hi,
I also have Ford Exped 99 with about 50K miles on it. I have exactly the same problem for about three days now. The car starts great, but in matter of seconds the rpm goes down to about .4 from .6. If I put it in gear, it shuts off completely. This is auto tranmission car. Can you please tell me where this MAP sensor is and how to clean it? Maybe I get lucky to remove this problem by following your advise.
Thanks in advance. | |

| | Guest | The sensor is actually the MAF (Mass Air Flow). Remove the Air Cleaner, Look into the plastic tube that runs towards the engine from the Air Filter. In the fat section about 4 inchs from the connection to the air filter you will see a sensor on the bottom of the tube pointing staright up. The sensor has a square window in it, with a thin wire running across the window. I actually found a little piece of crud on the wire. After I removed the crud with tweezers I sprayed Carb cleaner on it.
Good Luck | |
