Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default 98 Exp front end clunk

Had a little snow here recently so have had an opportunity to use the AWD and 4wd. Noticed a clunk noise coming from the front end when we first start to accelerate. I thought it was a sway bar at first but then noticed it doesn't happen when in AWD. In 2WD I get a few clunks when accelerating, don't hear it at speeds over 25 but perhaps noise is masked. When I put it in AWD don't hear the clunk. Car has about 168k.

so I took it to a mechanic. He was certain it was a shock. I asked how that could be related to 2WD vs AWD difference in noise, but he insisted. Nope. Then he was sure it was the left ball joint. Nope. Then it was the left axle, but I stood my ground and said I wasn't playing the part swapping game at my expense. Man this thing is killing me and I can't find what it is. Again it only clunks in 2WD and not in AWD, so I've been driving it in AWD, but I'm not sure that's good for the car. I guess I'm waiting for whatever it is to just finally give out.
