Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default motor chatter or something else.......

I was wondering if any other owners of this motor experience motor chatter when they first start their vehicles? when I first start my truck since beginning of new ownership I always hear this excessive ticking noise and it gradually goes away.

I have a 99 expedition 5.4 L Eddie Bauer.

well, I could tell you what I'd do if it were mine, but it's pretty bad advice...

try one of the commercial engine cleaners that goes in the oil before the next couple of oil changes and see what happens..

I know this is an old thread, but I have to advise against any type of motor flush or engine cleaner from bad personal experience.

I bought my '98 Expedition XLT back in early August of '05. It had around 79,000 miles on it, was really clean and ran out strong. After a few weeks we were going to take out daughter to college, so I decided to have the oil changed before the trip. After the oil change, the motor started to rattle softly, sounding like a muffled diesel. I still had powertrain warranty left on it, so I took it into the shop. Long story short, super clean motor inside like someone had used a motor flush, but scored journals on the crank and scored main bearings. Heavier weight oil must have been in the motor to quiet it down...once the proper oil was used the motor got noisy. Why? 79K worth of debris flushed down into the bottom end of the motor causing the damage. Warranty covered new crank kit, but ran into other issues that kept my vehicle in the shop for over two months.

My advice to anyone willing to listen...stay away from motor flushes, especially on higher mileage vehicles.
