Ford Expedition True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

Default Flashing 4x4 light on dash panel

I just purchased a used 1999 4x4 Eddie Bauer Expedition and I noticed that the 4x4 light is flashing on the dash. I looked in the manual, but I didn't see it say anything about a flasing light. I double checked the trans dial was turned to 4AWD.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what this is?

Thanks!!

DW

I just bought a 1998 model EB Expedition and mine is doing the same thing. I switched it over to 4wd High and "4x4" lights up and stays lit--no probs there. I also switched it over to 4wd Low and again, "4x4" stays lit, and I heard the ever familiar "kachunk" sound of the transfer case slipping into gear with 4wd high and low. But, the 4awd selection always causes the a4wd light to flash. Is it supposed to be this way or is it supposed to remain lit like the 4x4 light? Thanks. Rodney

both vehicles sound like a problem with the actuator motor on the transfer case... or the front differential engager/locker/make it go into 4WD motor..

I'm waiting for mine to start acting up...

My truck did the same at about 80,000 miles.
My truck did not engage when I wanted it too-frm awd to 4x4.
After 2 months I tacked it down to 3 things
1- The connector (9or 8 pin- the biggest one) to the motor is weatherd packed. The little green rubber insulator was soaked in atf from a prior transfer case fluid exchange. I rember the gun i used got locked up and it shot out everywhere-what a Bitc* It had cause dirt and debri to enter the connector which caused excessive ressistance.
2- My selector switch (dash) terminals was somewhat pitting .replaced.
3- I blew out the vacum storage tank ( between the battery and passenger side fendor ) The small vacumm lines on the firewall right above the batt i made sure was not kinked.

All is okay...
