Ford ExpeditionTrue expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.
JL- I am having this issue too. It seems like the vehicle is stuck in overdrive. It has no low end torque unless I manually shift it into 1st or second. In your opinion is this more likely to be caused by a sensor or computer problem or a symptom of a larger transmission issue? The check engine light is also on.
Thanks for your thoughts.

if it blinks like one long, then four short flashes (for example), it's flashing the actual fault code.
I have a 97 4wd Expedition and the overdrive light started blinking a couple of days ago. When the light is blinking, it feels like overdrive is kicking on and off. Any updates on what the fault codes mean?
I'm having this issue too, any responses on the fix short of replacing the tranny? Will have to get into it myself since I've have bad experences with dealerships. My first thought is to check fluid levels of transmission and look for wiring issues under steering column cover. If no issues then start looking for evidense of water leaks under dash panel fusebox and gem module area, looks like the ford expedition (99-01) have this issue of leaking windshields most likely because of the design.
Was servicing my wifes car today and found mice just starting to eat through the main wire bundle harness protective covering. Moved the car out side to work on it and actually saw the fricken mouse run off. Because of the cold they come up into the engine after it has been parked a while to keep warm.

your tranny pump is going.....i have water leak and different problems accure,,,,not trans prob.....if water was issue...you would have other problems....
I have this same issue with my 99 expi, the OD light light flashes after the car shifted some gears. What do i need to get this fixed? Will this get worse?
The first thing you need to do is get into a shop or auto parts store and get the codes read from the trans. This will give you a starting point. If your lucky it is something simple like the speed sensor otherwise you may be looking at a trans rebuild or replacement. You definitely want to look into this before your stranded far from home. Having said that i will say that on my 99 Windstar the OD light has been blinking for over a year and i can see a difference in rpm's when it does. One day i may go buy a speed sensor to see if that solves the issue.

I am having pretty much the same problem with my 99 Navigator. The overdrive light is flashing and it sometimes wont go into gear. The check engine light is not on though. I have a code reader & it does not pull up anything. What could this be??
You have to go to either the dealer or a tranny shop to get the codes out of the tranny computer. The OBDII computer won't give you the codes from the tranny.
