| Child Locks "self engaging" in 1997 Ford Expedition My 1997 Ford Expedition with over 165,000 miles has developed a bad habbit of locking people into the back seat. It has been doing it for about 30,000 miles now (or about a year and a half) and what seems to happen is the child safety lock switch just seems to drop while driving.
I actually found my way here to see about fixing a door ajar problem and I found the WD-40 suggestion so I figured I would ask if anyone else has had this issue. I plan to take the door apart and see if I can just remove the child lock parts so that this stops happening but I figured I would ask before I take the door apart and either start copping or welding depending on which is the better way to fix this...
Thanks for any advise! |

| We have an '01 and it's been happening to us, too. We have kids, so we don't care if it locks them in, but it's annoying.
let me know what works for you. |

| Two ways to fix #1 the right way take the door apart clean and lube every thing
#2 wrong way (the way I did it) put it on unlock-squirt black RTV silicone around the button,
done this over a year ago still ok, Kids grown up so I don't use them anymore. |
