Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default dip stick

I took my wife's 97 Explorer into Jiffy Lube and the goofy kid broke the dipstick off . I've tried to fish it out with a magnet but I think that it's sitting in the bottom of the oil pan .It's the piece that goes from the small hole to the end ( about 3-4 " long )

To get it out it looks like Jiffy lube is going to have to pay for this .

Does anybody have any suggestions ?

that sucks... because those dipsticks are only like ten bucks...

if you think it's sitting in the oil pan, it probably is... oil pan is going to have to come down...

Get the dipstick to pay to find the dipstick.

Regardless, you gotta get that out of there.

Jack up the rig as much as you can to point the drain plug down hill. Pull the plug, drain the oil. Might try a strong magnet to drag it near the drain hole. Get one of those tiny claws. Snatch the piece when its near the hole. Make take hours, still might not work. For the cost of dropping the pan, I'd at least try it.

Let us know what you work out.
