Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Default Key Pad on Door

I just bought a 2001 Explorer Sport that has the number key pad on the drivers side door. I don't have any of the books and do not know the current codes. Is there a way to reprogram this with out going to the dealer?

Thanks

Maybe someone here can help me remember specifically where, but inside on the drivers side rear, theres a compartment where your tire iron is stored. Remove that cover, and somewhere in there, I found a sticker with my code on it. (Sorry I can't remember specifics)

I'm not sure about a sticker inside the car, I now the master code can be retrieved at the dealership with the VIN and probley a small fee. The original code was on a card in the manual, looks like a credit card. If you can find the original code, because their all different, the dealership can help.

This is where I found mine:
How to find the Security Keyless Keypad Code on the 1995-2001 Ford Explorer or Mountaineer and how to use the Keypad functions. The factory code is also printed on a label which is installed on the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) Module. This is the module that controls the keyless entry system. It is located in the left rear quarter behind the removable panel (see photo). You will need to turn the two thumb screws counter clockwise and take the plastic panel off to be able to see the unit. A flashlight may be helpful in seeing the code. You are looking for the module and the 5 digit code on it.

Thank you, however i have an Explorer Sport if that makes a difference. I looked where you said and there is nothing but a jack, a wire to the power lock and tail light harness. I will keep looking.

There's a place I know about, where the dirt road runs out, and we can try out the 4 wheel drive..come on now, what do you say?
I've got the perfect place in mind, it's in the middle of nowhere, only one way to get there, you got to get a little mud on the tires.

Thumbs up Key Pad

After some research I was able to find the Code. In My 2001 Explorer Sport it is located behind the passenger side air bag. It took 30 minutes from start to finish. PM me if anyone needs the directions.
