Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

Question 2000 XLS 4.0L w/auto 4x4 Front end Vibration/Grinding

I have a 2000 Explorer XLS 4.0L with the auto 4x4. I get a front end vibration/grinding when I put a load on it (ei speeding up to pass, going up a hill). You don't have to be going a specific speed. As it is grinding it pulls to the left and sometimes even to the right. As soon as you let off it will quit pulling and grinding/vibrating. I have factory tires on it so I know it's not the tires. Has someone else had this issue that can tell me what is causing it.

Check your hubs, and cv shafts. How many miles are on it and have you replaced you differential fluid?

There are 154,000 miles on it. I bought it 3 weeks ago so we haven't checked anything other than having a friend who works transmissions look at it. I'll check the hubs and cv shaft and see.

I would STRONGLY recomend chaning ALL your fluids. Espically the gear fluids. Also does it make the noise when you go over bumps, or just put load on the drivetrain?

It might be the hub bearing assembly.
