Ford Explorer Ford Explorer is a midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction. Available with V6 or V8 power, the Explorer competes against the TrailBlazer, Grand Cherokee, 4Runner, and Pathfinder. Explorer was completely redesigned in 2006 and we were pleased with the new steering, new suspension, and new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation.

I guess I don't really understand, because to me your shocks look upside down. Every shock I've ever seen on a vehicle has the wider portion on the top.

I do remember that upper bolt on the rear driver's side being a pain though. My dad got the passenger side. lucky!

Hey guys i replaced my shocks today with Monroe air shocks, just a tip, if you lower the spare tire and remove the fuel canister routing tray on the drivers side, it's a whole lot easier to get to the top of the shock nuts. Thanks to all who posted pics and help on this.

Some times it can be a real bitch. Struts are the worst. They build cars now days so you have to go a garage.

Silicone spray on the grommets and brackets helps a lot.

I have also found that silicone spray is the only thing that will allows those rubber doughnut to slip over the exhaust hanger hooks.

The top mounting bolts are they part of the gusset plate? Or will they come off.
Is there a tool of some sort extension that can be used?
I will try to be working on my back shocks, saw the titeness & went hmmm?
The replies are good for help, but I want to get any tricks, shortcuts & or whatever else can be provided.

Actually they build cars now days that take so much more mechanical skill of the owners that most owners will just give up and take them to the Garage. What is nice about this site is that you can post and learn so you dont have to go to the Garage.
